About Dicks
In 1948, Richard “Dick” Stack opened the business in Binghamton, New York, as a retailer of fishing equipment. His grandma gave him a $300 loan to get started. In the first decade of the 1980s, when Dick’s had two locations in Upstate New York, Edward W. Stack and his siblings bought the business from their father. In 1994, Stack established a board of directors, added more locations, and moved the corporate headquarters to Pittsburgh.
